Honda is seeking a new dealer for west Norfolk after Jim Russell Garage in Downham Market relinquished the franchise and decided to quit motor retail after more than half a century.

Amanda Russell, a partner in the business, was unavailable for comment. But a source in the dealership’s sales team blames the tough new car market, coupled with Honda’s franchise standard demands.

“The management has decided it is simply uneconomic to continue,” he adds. Around 18 staff will be made redundant.

The company took on the Honda franchise in late 2002, after its Mercedes-Benz franchise was terminated by the carmaker. The Mercedes franchise was then given to rival Robinsons in nearby King’s Lynn.

AM understands that the two showrooms, service workshop and bodyshop will all be put up for sale in March, after the remaining cars in stock are sold.
